Prevention Education Coordinator / Advocate

The Prevention Education Coordinator / Advocate position is 25-28 hours per week with benefits including paid holidays, sick time, vacation, personal days, and Wyoming Retirement.

Starting pay: $20.00/hour

Job Summary:  The Prevention Education Coordinator/ Advocate works in the SAFE Project office during the hours of Monday through Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm with some evenings and weekends required. This position is responsible for coordinating primary prevention programming, including developing and delivering educational presentations to diverse audiences and children of all ages -- from preschool to teens, plus educators, school personnel, and community members. Educational topics will include SAFE Project services, healthy relationships, healthy friendships, teen dating violence, family abuse, sexual assault, stalking, healthy communication, and violence prevention. Other prevention duties include recognizing prevention months, taking part in community activities and meetings, and helping with SAFE events. ​

This position also helps provide advocacy services and support to survivors of domestic, family, and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in Albany County. Advocate responsibilities include crisis intervention, safety planning, emergency shelter, assistance with protection orders, limited transportation, hospital response, accompaniment to court proceedings and other agencies, referrals, ongoing support, plus on-call shifts on the 24-hour crisis line, including one overnight each week, one weekend every five to six weeks, and some holidays. An on-call stipend is provided for all hotline shifts.

Requirements: 

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Must be able to work some nights and weekends
• Applicants must pass criminal history and background checks
• Selected candidate must be able to complete SAFE Project’s direct services and advocacy training within 90 days of hire. The training typically takes place in the SAFE office during evenings and weekends over a two-week period

Skills and qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
• Excellent leadership and communication skills (written, oral, and public speaking)
• Strong collaboration and cooperation skills within a team
• Experience with diverse populations preferred
• Experience working with children and teenagers preferred
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Proficient use of technology, including Google workspace programs
