Position Summary
The Wyoming REALTORS® seek an energetic and strategic Government Affairs Director (GAD) to lead our association’s engagement with local and state government entities, policymakers, and public stakeholders. In this pivotal role, you will develop and execute comprehensive advocacy strategies, foster strong relationships with legislators and media outlets, and ensure our organization’s interests are effectively represented at all levels of government. Your expertise will help shape policy initiatives, enhance member engagement, and advance our mission.
Essential Functions
- Support the Wyoming REALTORS® Board of Directors and its staff in delivering quality services and support to the membership.
- Develop and implement proactive advocacy strategies, aligned with organizational goals, to influence legislation and public policy.
- Lead the organization's state advocacy efforts, particularly before and with the Wyoming State Legislature and Wyoming State Government.
- Monitor federal and state legislative developments, analyze policy impacts, and provide strategic counsel to leadership on political trends affecting the organization.
- Lead media relations efforts by managing press releases, coordinating interviews, and overseeing social media management to promote positive public perception.
- Draft clear and compelling informational materials, legislative proposals, and policy briefs that support advocacy initiatives.
- Assist in the execution of advocacy campaigns, association events, fundraising activities that support advocacy objectives.
- Prepare detailed written reports on government processes and statewide advocacy efforts.
Desired Experience and Abilities
- Proven experience in government affairs and public relations (or related fields) with a strong understanding of Wyoming legislative processes and public policy issues.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to craft persuasive messages through writing, editing, and public speaking.
- Demonstrated expertise in media relations, social media management, and strategic awareness campaigns.
- Ability to analyze complex legislation and government documents; experience in legislative bill drafting is a plus.
- Knowledge of political campaign strategy, endorsements, and campaign finance is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects within budget constraints and deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
- Three (3) years of experience in government affairs/advocacy
- Understanding of state and federal legislative and executive political processes
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Computer proficiency with MS Office, Canva, email, and presentation tools
Preferred Qualifications/Nice-to-Haves:
- Master's Degree (MPA, MBA, MA, MS)
- Journalism experience
- Marketing experience
- Real Estate experience
- Regulatory experience
Location Notice: The main office of the Wyoming REALTORS® is located in Casper, WY. The Government Affairs Director (GAD) may work remotely from any location within Wyoming, but residence in Casper or Cheyenne is preferred.
