Compassionate, experienced educator who will advocate and support the youth and children living at Seton House.  This position is full-time 40 hours Monday-Friday with some evenings and weekends required.  This position includes addressing the basic needs for youth and children in poverty, advocacy within the education system and coordination of resources including but not limited to facilitation of parenting classes and nutrition classes, making referrals to mental health services, medical care resources, CDC screenings, DFS waiver assistance and childcare facilities.  

Seton House is a self-sufficiency program with housing for 22 single-parent families. The Youth Services Facilitator will act as a liaison with partnering agencies and will be provided with training through our Connections to Success program. An ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and will be required to work within the boundaries of confidentiality. This position includes one-on-one coaching with single parents as they journey towards success and independence. This position includes one-on-one tutoring with school age children for school success.

 

Duties/ Responsibilities: 

  • Assess immediate needs of children and youth upon intake 
  • Implement youth and child policies and procedures. 
  • Complete the youth intake process with each parent for each child.
  • Create participant files with relevant documents such as media releases and ROI’s. 
  • Develop and maintain appropriate trusting relationships with parents, youth and children living at Seton House. 
  • Report concerns to the other staff and the director. 
  • Comply with laws concerning mandatory reporting in regard to safety concerns for children and families. 
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with outside agencies including DFS, NCSD#1 personnel, daycare providers and community partners.
  • Obtain Release of Information with NCSD#1 and other partnering agencies to effectively support families. 
  • Attend MDT and/or IEP meetings as needed as well as mentor families through those resource based processes. 
  • Address student attendance and grades by keeping open communication with parents and youth and providing support when necessary.
  • Participate in monthly/ weekly check-in meetings with the NCSD Homeless liaison and maintain documentation of families moving in and out of Seton House. Clear written communication with the school district. 
  • Attend Community and coalition meetings as appropriate. This may include NCPC, DEA, Family & Parenting Subcommittee, Situation Table plus others.  This should be a maximum time commitment of 4-5 hours per month.
  • Provide educational resources and supports based on the individual needs of each child and family.  
  • Assist with parent-driven goals based on the individual needs of each child and family.  
  • Provide coordination support for afterschool hours based on the needs of individual youth, children and families. 
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring for school age children.
  • Provide monthly youth mentoring meetings of Greatness Kids Initiative and document goals, grades, attendance and needs.
  • Create family recreational opportunities appropriate for youth and children in accordance with the NCJPB grant. 
  • Plan and implement monthly Family Connect events and activities and holiday celebrations for the families who live at Seton House.
  • Support families in finding and utilizing appropriate childcare during break holidays such as winter break, spring break and summer break and days when the schools are closed.
  • Document in Obodo Hub software after each client meeting. Document additional events, interactions and relevant information about program participants. 
  • Coach individual single-parents and children/youth supporting healthy family routines.
  • Ensure safety standards are met in the apartments for children and educate parents on safe practices 
  • Guide parents to keep apartment settings childproof, clean and safe for young children.
  • Other duties as assigned  

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience required in field related to Education, Child Development, Social Work or Human Services 
  • At least 2 years related work experience
  • Must have clear Motor Vehicle Record and a valid driver's license
  • Must pass a criminal background check and be legally allowed to work around children, youth and vulnerable adults. 
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Must have the ability to resolve conflict or deescalate tensions in a stressful environment

  • Will need to learn about community resources and assistance programs including Child Care assistance, Food stamps, POWER for the purposes of making appropriate referrals.
