JOB SUMMARY

The Branch Assistant provides front-line library services at one or more branch locations. This position delivers excellent customer service to patrons, supports circulation and collections, assists with programs and events, and helps ensure daily branch operations run smoothly and safely. Regular travel between branch locations is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide front-line customer service to patrons in person and by phone, assisting with library accounts, materials, questions, and general needs.
  2. Support access to collections through readers’ advisory and basic reference assistance.
  3. Perform circulation and materials handling functions including check-in and check-out, shelving, processing daily notifications to the public, and maintaining collections.
  4. Assist patrons with library technology and equipment, including public computers, self-check kiosks, and copiers.
  5. Support daily branch operations including opening and closing procedures, branch clerical and maintenance needs, and assisting with programs and events.
  6. Protect patron confidentiality, and complete other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  •  Working knowledge of standard computer software and library systems.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail and good task prioritization.
  • Accurate data entry and filing skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and escalate when needed.

WORK SCHEDULE 

Work schedule will predominantly be normal business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or a variation thereof) Monday through Friday but may consist of weekend and evening hours as well. Anyone who works for the library must be willing to work anytime the library is open. Laramie County Library (Cheyenne) open hours are Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. All employees are scheduled to attend monthly staff meetings and in-service days in Cheyenne.

  • This position receives paid time off for 13 holidays, vacation and sick leave, and an annual personal day.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

 This position requires regularly moving or handling equipment, boxes, files, and library materials weighing up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.
