Survivor Advocate (part-time, 20 hours//week)

This part-time position is in person in Laramie with benefits including paid holidays, vacation, sick time, personal time, and wellness/self-care hours.

Starting pay: $19.71/hour

Job Summary: The Survivor Advocate has crucial advocacy duties in person and on the 24-hour hotline, including but not limited to crisis intervention, shelter services, safety planning, and referrals to survivors of intimate partner, family, and sexual violence, and stalking. Responsible for intake paperwork, sheltering survivors and their kids and pets, assisting with Protection Orders, accompanying clients to the hospital, court, and other agencies, some transportation, and providing ongoing advocacy. Also responsible for helping survivors who are students at UW, WyoTech, and Laramie campus LCCC navigate Title IX and connect with campus housing and academic services, plus some outreach through student orientations, tabling, and resource fairs. May represent clients and SAFE Project in some multidisciplinary team meetings.

Requirements: 

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Applicants must successfully pass criminal history and background checks.
  • Required to complete state mandated direct services/advocacy training within 90 days of being hired. The training typically takes place over evenings and weekends for a two week period.
  • Must be able to work some nights and weekends.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills (written, oral, and public speaking)
  • Strong collaboration skills; a team player
  • Experience with diverse populations preferred
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Proficient use of technology, including Google workspace programs
