Kennel Tech Job Description
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Works closely with other Staff, Executive Director, Public, LPHS Board Members and Law Enforcement
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Perform daily cleaning of kennels, cages and public areas, following proper disease control
protocol to ensure a sterile environment
2. Keep Executive Director informed of animal behavior, health or concerns
3. Stock all kennel/cleaning supplies as needed
4. Stock areas and spot-clean kennels and public areas throughout the day
6. Clean, fold, and stock kennel laundry throughout the Shelter
7. Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
1. Must be able to learn basic dog and cat behaviors, including but not limited to
vaccine protocols and microchips
2. Will be asked to communicate with the public on a daily basis in a professional manner
3. Post on Facebook
4. Be Computer literate
5. Become proficient with Shelter Software
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be able to work standing or sitting for 4 or more hours
2. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help
3. Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly
4. Must be able to see fine detail in a variety of situations
5. Must have good hearing including ability to distinguish changes in pitch
6. Must have reasonable degree of agility to move through tightly cramped areas in
various situations
EMOTIONAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be able to work under stressful conditions and work efficiently and effectively
under those conditions
2. Must be able to cope with death either due to surgical complication or euthanasia
3. Ability to rapidly and accurately process information
4. Ability to recognize a need for assistance and ask for help
5. Ability to work independently and as part of team
6. Ability to make decisions
7. Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain calm
Potential and Prolonged Exposures
1. Prolonged exposure to isopropanol, hydrogen peroxide
2. Exposure to ammonium cleaners and bleach
3. Potential exposure to sharps including needles
PREFERRED
Two or more years of experience in a veterinary clinic, veterinary hospital, and/or animal shelter
or control facility. Candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a
professional attitude.
This position is scheduled for 7 days/week. Will include working some holidays and weekends
depending on shelter needs.
Candidate must be flexible with schedule changes and short notice requests.
