Director of External Affairs

Full-time
Salary: $80,000.00 - $88,000.00 Annually
Application Deadline: Jul 31, 2025
Nonprofit

The Wyoming Nonprofit Network (WNN) is expanding its external affairs capacity to elevate the visibility, influence, and effectiveness of Wyoming’s nonprofit sector. This investment strengthens our ability to shape public policy, build strategic relationships, develop and share compelling sector messaging, provide advocacy training and resources, and produce research that highlights the impact of nonprofits and philanthropy across the state. Hiring a Director of External Affairs is a core component of that expansion and will play a central role in advancing these efforts.

Position Information

The Director of External Affairs advances Wyoming Nonprofit Network’s mission to amplify, cultivate, and advocate for Wyoming’s nonprofits by championing efforts to build partnerships and public support that expand the reach and effectiveness of Wyoming nonprofits. This role works closely with the Executive Director to foster alignment among advocacy, partnerships, and organizational objectives.

Essential Function Areas (see job description for full details):

  • Messaging and Relationship Building
  • Public Policy Monitoring and Analysis
  • Advocacy Training and Member Engagement
  • Fund Development and Sector Research

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 5 years of senior-level experience in public policy, advocacy, nonprofit leadership, strategic communications, or a combination of these areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic communications, including messaging development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Thorough knowledge of the legislative and policy-making process at the state and federal levels.
  • Strong understanding of the nonprofit sector, Wyoming’s political landscape, and legal considerations related to lobbying and nonprofit advocacy.
  • Familiarity with Wyoming’s elected officials, association leaders, and other key public, philanthropic, and community leaders is highly preferred.

Location

This is a remote position; however, the selected candidate must be based in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This ensures the Director can attend legislative meetings, events, and in-person engagements central to the role, including building and maintaining relationships with elected officials, state agencies, and other key partners. The Director must maintain and work in a home-based remote office that enables effective and efficient execution of job responsibilities, including a reliable high-speed internet connection, a quiet and distraction-free workspace, and other requirements outlined in the Remote Work Policy.
